Ray was one of 51 dogs seized from Michael Vick's Bad Newz Kennels. For the first time in history, the judge in the case ordered that the dogs be individually assessed to see if there was any hope for rehabilitation. Prior to this, fighting dogs (even day old puppies) were routinely euthanized. To everyone's amazement, only one of the dogs was deemed too aggressive to save. The dogs were separated into two groups;those who were ready to go immediately into foster care or homes, and those who needed more work to be considered ready for adoption. Ray and 21 other dogs were in the second group, and were sent to Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah.

The BFAS dogs were dubbed the Vicktory Dogs. One of the court requirements was that the dogs pass their Canine Good Citizenship test in order to be adopted. One by one the dogs began to heal and go into homes. In August of 2013, after months of working together, Ray passed his CGC and came home to us. He began his court ordered 6 month foster period. On Valentines Day of 2014 his adoption became final. Although he lived with us for less than 2 years, he made a huge mark during that time. He became an ambassador for the breed, traveling with me across the country. He attended rallies against Breed Discrimination. His Facebook page had more than 12K friends. Ray didn't just belong to us, he belonged to the world. He was even featured on the Huffington Post: Ray the Vicktory Dog
