Sugar was my heart kitty. We adopted her in 2008 after she had spent six months in the shelter. We always wondered why she wasn't adopted sooner, but maybe she was waiting for us. Everyone who met Sugar loved her. She lived up to her name everyday - she was gentle, sweet, and beautiful. She was also very playful.
In early 2013 Sugar was diagnosed with mammary cancer. She fought a hard fight for sixteen months. She had a mastectomy, lumpectomy, and five rounds of chemo. Sadly in May 2014 we learned that her cancer had spread to her lungs and we had to help her on her journey to her tenth life at the Rainbow Bridge.
Sugar left a legacy; I founded Sugarrub.org in her honor and memory. It is an organization dedicated to spreading awareness that pets get breast cancer and we encourage owners to do monthly breast exams on their pets.
